Biological control of Boxwood Moth eggs

Trichogramma are parasitoid micro-wasps. The female lays her eggs in those of the Boxwood moth, destroying them and thus preventing caterpillars from hatching.
5000 of these mini insects have been inserted into a dispenser the size of a credit card. This card (biodegradable) protects them from natural enemies and the weather.

Order Trichogramma only after Boxwood moths have been observed

TOPBUXUS Trichogramma are only effective when Boxwood moths are active. Therefore, order them immediately after you have spotted the first Boxwood moths in your garden and/or moth trap. Hang the dispensers in your Boxwood immediately after receiving them. The parasitic wasps fly out of the dispenser after 5-10 days (after dispatch) and will destroy all the Boxwood moth eggs they can find for up to 2 weeks.

The flight time of the Boxwood moth is about 4 weeks. Therefore, we recommend to place a 2nd (fresh) batch of Trichogramma, 2 weeks after placing the first Trichogramma, to achieve an effectiveness of up to 90%.

Compatible with TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®

PLEASE NOTE: TOPBUXUS Trichogramma is not a replacement for TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®, it will ensure that there are far fewer caterpillars hatching from the Boxwood moth eggs (reduction of up to 90%) which can then be controlled with TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®.

Safe for birds and bees

TOPBUXUS Trichogramma are highly selective in their search for Boxwood Moth eggs.

TOPBUXUS Trichogramma are 100% organic and safe for pets, bees and other beneficial insects, birds and other animals that visit your garden.

Description

Trichogramma are parasitoid micro-wasps. The female lays her eggs in those of the Boxwood moth, destroying them and thus preventing caterpillars from hatching.

Compatible with TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® /XenTari®
NOTE: TOPBUXUS Trichogramma is not a substitute for Anti Rups/XenTari, it will ensure that there are far fewer caterpillars hatching from the Boxwood moth eggs (reduction of up to 90%) which can then be destroyed with TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®.
1 Order unit contains 4 dispensers, sufficient for 20 metres of Buxus hedge or 40m2 Boxwood.
Available from May until October.

Application:
1 dispenser per 5 metres of hedge or 10m2 or per pruning form. The Trichogramma are micro parasitic wasps that parasitise the eggs of the Buxus moth. They can be effective up to 90%.
5000 of these mini insects are placed in a dispenser the size of a credit card. This card (biodegradable) protects them against natural enemies and the weather.

Timing is important:
In order to maximise the effectiveness of the Trichogramma, it is ideal to "monitor" the flight of the Boxwood Moth using a Boxwood Moth trap.
The method of action is the same for each Boxwood moth flight. As soon as the first moths are observed or caught in the moth trap, the Trichogramma can be ordered.
The dispensers are ready to use and require no preparation. Upon receipt, you only need to hang them IN the Boxwood using the integrated hook system. The card is no longer visible and may be "forgotten", as it is fully biodegradable.
In order to maximise efficiency, it is advisable to apply Trichogramma a second time 10-14 days after the first time.

Does the Trichogramma continue indefinitely in time?
No, the little creature has one goal: to find Boxwood moth eggs, parasitise them (to reproduce) and die. The egg of the Boxwood moth serves as food for its own egg so that it can evolve into a new parasitic wasp. If the wasp does not find any more Boxwood moth eggs, it will die without being able to reproduce and the cycle is broken.

Can you also use Trichogramma against the chewing caterpillars or is it a replacement for Topbuxus Anti Rups/XenTari?
No, Trichogramma are not effective against caterpillars and therefore it is not a replacement for TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®.
The Trichogramma will ensure that far fewer caterpillars hatch from the Boxwood moth eggs (reduction of up to 90%). The potential surviving eggs that have evolved into caterpillars should still be treated with TOPBUXUS Anti Rups® / XenTari®. Both products are compatible with the Trichogramma and are not toxic to bees, (young) birds, people, pets, etc.

PS. Trichogramma are of course NOT compatible with: Broad-spectrum chemical pesticides (all-purpose killers) based on Deltamethrin (e.g. Decis), Lambda-cyhalothrin (e.g. Karate Garden), all-purpose killers such as Decis, Spinosad, Broad-spectrum biological pesticides based on abamectin, spinosad, pyrethrum, etc.
Despite their biological origin, these products do not distinguish between caterpillars, Trichogramma, bees, etc..
